Infinity Ward’s latest release, Modern Warfare 2, has created a humungous and extremely active community on Youtube. Videos that showcase tips on how to navigate maps, strategy tips and intense back and forth matches are being viewed more than any other type set of videos on Youtube.
In Google’s universal search the top two Modern Warfare video has over 4.5 million views each. Each of those videos has over 20K ratings and 30K comments. This is way more activity then the latest Lady Gaga or Molly Cyrus video is getting.
The videos have created quite a community with people interacting by posting videos replies, comments and helping Infinity Ward sell more video games. Infinity Ward has benefited from the newest form of word of mouth advertising, social media, and has used it to its advantage. There is a need and a want out there for this community to get better and learn tricks for the game. Youtube has provided a learning resource for many MW2 players.
One great example of someone who has taken advantage of the games popularity is a man who calls himself Hutch. He creates Call Of Duty videos by recording his matches and then going back and recording commentary over the action. He offers tips, strategies and little bit of humor to keep his viewers interested.
Because of the popularity of the game and his ability to string together kills so well he has created a Youtube channel that has just under 95K subscribers and had his videos viewed over 7 million times. Most of his videos are posted on Machinima’s Channel, which categorizes itself as a mix of machines and cinema. On their channel you will find a host of many gaming vids that offer strategy tips and reviews of the most popular games.
Both of these examples have utilized Youtube for their benefit. Many gamers hear to the internet for help with their current conquest. By posting videos on Youtube they have made themselves a valuable resource where many internet searches head.
