5 Resources To Learn Search Engine Marketing
Many of us do not have the privilege of being taught SEO or Paid Search by someone with 10-15 years of experience. In fact, some of the top search engine marketers taught themselves their craft by trial and error.
Thankfully there are quite a bit of resources available to help guide young, aspiring search engine markets. Below is a list of blogs, forums and videos available that I have personally used over the past few years to turn myself from a novice to a pretty darn good search marketer.
SEOMoz Blog – One of the most highly regarded SEO Blogs out there, SEOMOz constantly posts in depth material that is easy to implement and understand. While some of the information can be for the more advanced SEO there are plenty of posts for beginners and each Friday the latest “White Board Friday” is posted, a video that focuses on a major topic in search marketing usually lead by SEOMoz CEO Rand Fishkin.
MarketingScoop’s Internet Marketing Forum – At some point you are going to have a question that a blog post won’t answer, or maybe you are looking for some freelance work or are looking for guest posters for your blog. An forum is a great resource where you can ask questions, promote your latest posts or even look for freelance work. When I first realized I wanted to have a career in search I found myself heading to forums quite often asking questions and was pleased at the response I got. Many forums, such as the Internet Marketing Forum, have dedicated admins that will answer any type of questions you have.
Youtube Videos – Youtube contains a plethora of videos and how to’s regarding SEM and SEO. Simply head over to youtube and search for “SEO” or “Paid Search” and you will find tons of videos explaining and teaching search engine marketing.
PPC Hero – One of the top blogs that focuses solely on paid search, PPC Hero is a great resource to help you understands the ins and outs of setting up a successful marketing campaign. The blog is full of optimization tips and will write up extensive insight into any new features released in Adwords, Yahoo SEM or MSN AdCenter.
Twitter – While scouring through blog posts, forums and Youtube videos you are bound to come across many search marketers who use Twitter. If you aren’t already, follow some of the top industry professionals in SEO and SEM. Your Twitter feed will now work like an RSS and update you with any new or interesting things occurring in your industry. Twitter can also help you build relationships with people in your industry. Don’t be afraid to ReTweet someone who wrote a post you thought useful.
